Position Summary
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Kitten Nursery Lead to provide daily hands-on support for our Kitten Nursery volunteers and the kittens in our care. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced animal care environment, is comfortable with medical treatments, and has a passion for helping vulnerable animals get the best possible start in life.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Kitten Care
- Ensure all kittens are properly fed, cleaned, and cared for throughout each shift
- Perform daily health checks, medical treatments, vaccinations, deworming, and flea prevention as directed by staff veterinarians
- Administer treatments for kittens on quarantine protocols, including ringworm and panleukopenia cases
- Test kittens for FeLV and FIV as appropriate
- Assist staff veterinarians with the vet list at the adoption center as needed
Volunteer Training & Support
- Train new Kitten Nursery volunteers on proper feeding and cleaning procedures, animal handling, laundry, facility orientation, and emergency protocols
- Ensure all volunteers are adequately trained and supported in alignment with Kitten Nursery Coordinator guidelines
Nursery Operations
- Assess and determine which kittens meet admittance criteria for the Nursery with guidance from the Kitten Nursery Coordinator
- Maintain adequate stock of all nursery supplies and medications at all times
- Prepare and gather supplies for animals transitioning to or from foster care
- Ensure all screening, health checks, treatments, and daily duties are completed accurately and on time
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; one year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
- Previous animal handling experience is required
- Animal handling experience in a veterinary setting is highly preferred
- Ability to perform each essential duty accurately and consistently
- Must pass a background check upon hire
