Contract: Under a Prime Contract with the U.S. Department of Energy
Compensation: $90/hour
Employment Type: 1 Year contract (With possibility of extension or conversion based on performance and organizational needs)
About the Role We are seeking experienced Safety Professionals to support a major DOE capital project delivering a next-generation soft x-ray light source, up to 1,000x brighter than the current facility. You'll be an integrated member of the project's safety team, helping keep a world-class scientific facility safe through design, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, assess, and mitigate hazards across construction, industrial, electrical, radiological, and hazardous-material work
Support work planning & control, including review of work packages and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
Conduct field safety walkthroughs, observations, and readiness verifications
Participate in engineering/design reviews and readiness reviews
Support regulatory compliance and DOE oversight reviews
Investigate incidents/near misses and drive corrective actions and lessons learned
Collaborate closely with internal safety, radiation protection, engineering, and facilities teams
What We're Looking For
Demonstrated experience in safety management on large construction or complex technical projects, ideally governed by DOE O 413.3B or similar standards
Experience at DOE, nuclear, accelerator, or comparable facilities strongly preferred
Familiarity with radiological, lead, industrial, and construction hazard controls
Strong communication skills for coordinating across technical and safety teams
Ability to work both in the field and in a planning/documentation capacity
