About the Role We're looking for a Junior Accountant to help ensure the financial integrity of our general ledger and support timely, smooth month-end and year-end closes. This position reconciles account balances and bank statements and owns our payroll function and related reporting. It's a hands-on role performed fully on-site.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Support day-to-day and monthly accounting operations, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and initiating reimbursements for some receivables
Help maintain an accurate general ledger database and ensure integrity between the GL and development database
Contribute to external audits by preparing schedules, coordinating projects, and providing accurate, relevant reporting
Document and maintain policies, procedures, and workflows for assigned areas of responsibility
Perform bi-weekly payroll processing and related reporting, including verifying timesheets and union dues
Work with Human Resources to ensure accurate employee setup/changes in payroll, benefit/union deductions, reporting, and accruals; resolve payroll discrepancies; process and maintain retirement transmissions, reports, and census; prepare final checks on time
Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules
Maintain schedules for select prepaid expenses, amortizing and recording monthly allocation expenses as appropriate
Prepare certain monthly reports in a timely manner
Assist with departmental and organizational special projects as assigned
Assist with budget preparation as necessary
Perform other accounting duties as assigned
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting from a four-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role
Thorough understanding of accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations

Solid math skills: calculating earnings, labor hours, overtime, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume; basic algebra
Sound judgment applying instructions in written, oral, or diagram form; able to work through problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations
Technical Skills
Knowledge of computerized general ledger systems (e.g., Blackbaud Financial Edge)
Knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP Workforce Now)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
